Mama na Zaïre…

Originally this post was supposed to be about our new bundle of joy, our baby boy.

I didn’t get very far though, because I don’t have the words just yet to express myself properly. I just know that I am happy! Excessively happy!

Stuck in my writer’s block, I’m driving home and I’m feeling so blessed. I thanked God for my baby boy. I also thanked him for placing you in my life and then it all clicked as I came to a stop at the red light by Cineworld.

You have made me the happiest man alive and for that, thank you. I sat by you for 96 hours as you had labour pains, every single minute of that 96 hours, I admired you and loved you even more.

The last 24 hours of your labour is a day I’ll never forget. I witnessed you in so much pain, agony and distress. I couldn’t do anything. At times, multiple times, I wondered to myself, how I can take some of the pain your feeling away so you can rest a little bit, maybe get a few hours of sleep. Despite you at your worst state, dry cracking lips, puffy eyes from the lack of sleep, widened nose and the pregnant mask on your face. I was in awe of you like never before, amazed, completely astonished at the strength you displayed, like some kind of superhero. You have scars that will remind you everyday of the beautiful journey, may those scars also remind you of the strong woman you are and that you are capable of overcoming anything.

Welcome to the world son! You really made us wait and we waited impatiently for you. You are worth the wait, I’m sure mummy doesn’t remember the pain because you are a little angel we have gained.

You’re name is Zaïre. Zaïre you’ll be a man of great dignity and pride. You’ll carry your Bantu identity wherever the world takes you. You’ll be strong minded like a real Tetela man that you are. You will stand tall & you will fear nothing. No dream will be too big for you…Afterall son, you are ZAÏRE…”the river that swallows all rivers”
